They are three of the specialist categories in cl 14 of the Home Building Regulation 2014, and Schedule 4 of the same Regulation gives each a scope. Plumbing covers water, sewerage and sanitary plumbing work but expressly excludes drainage and the residential building work category of roof plumbing. Draining covers sanitary drainage — the sanitary drain connecting to a sewer, including a house drain on an onsite wastewater system. Gasfitting is defined not in the Home Building Act at all but by the Gas Supply Act 1996, which is why it sits in its own category. A business can hold more than one, but holding one does not imply the others.

Who inspects plumbing work in Wollongong — the council or the state?
